The first traditional red Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée, “Domaine André Mathieu”, is made from the thirteen varieties of grapes allowed in the appellation and reveals an elegant wine where tannins mingle with the roundness of aromas.
The special cuvée “La Centenaire” is a wine made from the oldest vines on the estate, (planted between 1890 and 1914). This vintage delivers aromatic complexity and smoothness with fine tannins which one only finds in the greatest vintages.
The Vin di Félibre cuvée is an atypical Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a dominance of Mourvèdre and matured in brand new casks. This vintage is made in very limited quantities, only for the greatest millésimes. “The 2015 vintage was a success for both red and white”, says André Mathieu, “A wonderful vintage on a par with the 2009, for the André Mathieu and La Centenaire vintages. It is characterised by a lovely concentration, a pleasant freshness, it is rich in red fruit flavours, with a good ageing potential. It's a lovely classic vintage, with a clear Châteauneuf-du-Pape character, revealing an intense expression of Grenache.
The 2016 vintage is even more concentrated and powerful. The harvests were healthy, the wines are very well balanced, with body and freshness. I like to focus on freshness when I make wine, I don't like over-concentration.
The 2012 red Vin di Félibre Châteauneuf-du-Pape, intense in colour and flavours, with aromas of ripe fruit and spice, firm tannins, requires some time to reveal its full character. Ideal with caramelised rabbit and spice, or pan-fried foie gras and grapes. “An 80% Mourvèdre vintage, matured for 30 months, this is a very concentrated and complex wine, with great potential for laying down.”
I only make 8% of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 2015 white vintages have aromas of white flower, these are very fine and enjoyable wines. They are characterised by a great minerality, a lovely sweetness, complexity, body and elegance. These wonderful millésimes have a 5 to 8 year ageing potential, although they are already enjoyable as young wines, particularly the Cuvée André Mathieu.
The 2015 white Vin di Félibre Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée combines power and elegance. It is aromatic, intense, with notes of fresh pear and a lasting palate, fatty yet balanced by characteristic acidity, with notes of citrus and hawthorn, a classic, frank and full-bodied, wine.
The 2016 red and rosé Côtes-du-Rhône cuvée are powerful and concentrated wines. The 2016 Seriziers vintage, a wonderful, very powerful wine, with a lovely concentration, delightful aromas of cherry and kirsch. These great wines can be enjoyed straight away but have an up to 5 year ageing potential.
The 2016 rosé Se Sian Accoumpagna Côtes-du-Rhône is a saignée wine, with an intense colour, quite a vinous rosé which will ideally match a carbecue among friends.
